Gerald Bruny (often signed Bruny Gerald)
Gerald Bruny was born in Port-au-Prince on June 1, 1955. He started painting at the age of sixteen, inspired by the great "primitive", Montas Antoine. He was an active painter in Haiti in the 1970's, showing at the Galerie Issa, among other places. He was known for story lines alternately dark and humorous, and his dramatic, chiarascuro lighting. He emigrated to the United States in the late 1970's. Whether he continued painting there is not clear, but he did exhibit in the US on several occasions. According to his sister, Bruny died in 1986
