Denis Smith
Born 1954 in Soisson-la-Montagne, Haiti. A founding member of the Saint-Soleil group of artists, championed by Andre Malraux, Smith began to paint in 1972. With the recent passing of Prospere Pierre-Louis, Louisiane Saint Fleurant, Dieseul Paul, Tiga and Stivenson Magloire, he is one of the last surviving members of this innovative group. His work is published in Haiti: Art Naif, Art Vodou (1988), Where Art is Joy (Rodman, 1988), and Dialogue du Réel et de lImaginaire (1990).
