About the Artist
Cresencio Pérez Robles learned the art of yarnwork from his parents in the Sierra Madre. His more than seventy years have been centered in the Huichol tradition, reflected in his work. The entire Pérez family is involved in Huichol art, and Cresencio himself has been selected to participate in several national and international events demonstrating Huichol art. Each Huichol yarn picture is a one-of-a-kind presentation created from the artist's spiritual visions. Pérez begins by spreading beeswax on a plywood base board. The design is then etched into the wax and the etching is filled with colorful yarn. This is a very precise and time consuming process. Each cuadro (yarn picture) displays Pérez's unique sense of color and form, and expresses a mysticism drawn from Huichol religious beliefs. Bio info from http://www.novica.com
