The Indigo Arts website remains active during the widespread shutdown due to the COVID-19 virus.  I will be monitoring orders and responding to inquiries.  I have been shipping out orders but due to the March 23rd "Stay at Home" order in Philadelphia I now have to delay shipments until I can go in to the gallery to pack them - currently about once a week.  Stay tuned!.  Please stay home and stay safe!

Simon G. Mpata

About the Artist

The youngest (half) brother of E. S. Tingatinga (of the same mother but a different father), Mpata learned to paint from his illustrious brother , and without a doubt is the artist who kept his style the closest to Tingatinga's. Upon Tingatinga's death he demonstrated his uncompromised fidelity to his late brother's will by refusing to train numerous new Tingatinga recruits and preferred to leave Tanzania and open his studio in Nairobi. where he died in 1984, aged 42. (Notes above courtesy of Yves Goscinny).
