Note:
With the high cost of shipping many of our customers choose to ship by USPS. For small and light shipments this is usually less expensive, but please be aware that their estimates are often wrong and their service can be very slow (sixteen days for Priority Mail from Philadelphia to New York City recently). The service is not always as economical as it may appear, particularly on larger or more valuable shipments. USPS estimates only include insurance up to $100 for its domestic shipments. If you ask for full insurance we will recalculate the shipping cost and send you an invoice for any difference in cost. For overseas shipments USPS will not insure for over $650. On request we can get estimates for overseas shipping from DHL.

St. Louis Blaise

About the Artist

Born - St. Louis Blaise was born in Cap Haitian in 1956. Biography - St. Louis was the second and probably the best-known of the four celebrated Blaise brothers, all of whom became fine Haitian painters. He began painting in 1971, studying with Charles Anatole and the Bottex brothers. He moved to port-au-Prince, where he worked for a time at Galerie Issa. later he was represented by the Galerie Monnin, from which these paintings were purchased. In the early part of his career St. Louis Blaise was best known for the kind of historical scenes and portraits shown below. Later on he turned his attention to paintings of exaggeratedly fat members of the Haitian bourgeoise in a manner reminiscent of Botero. But whatever the subject, his attention to detail was unrivalled. His paintings are widely collected, especially in Europe, and are in the permanent collections of many museums. St. Louis Blaise died in 1993.
