Erzulie Freda Vodou Flag

Indigo Arts' Philadelphia gallery space is closed as I move upstairs to a new space on the fourth floor of the Crane Building.  I hope to be up and running again later in May, on a "by appointment or by chance" basis.  Meanwhile, the Indigo Arts online gallery is operating as usual, though shipments may be delayed a bit.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions in the mean time.

Thanks,

Tony

Sequins and beads on fabric
(40 x 33), 2000
This flag is being sold by Judy Hoffman for the benefit of the Art Creation Foundation for Children, which she founded in Jacmel, Haiti.

While still in his thirties, a relatively young age for an established artist, Yves Telemak became a prominent member of the famous "Bel-Air school" of flag-makers. The son of a respected vodou priest, Yves began his career by working as an assistant in the atilye (atelier) of the Bel-Air flagmaker Joseph "Boss To" Fortine. After learning the craft from "Boss To", Yves ventured out on his own. Eager to design drapo Vodou that expressed his personal artistic vision, Yves transformed a room in his family compound into a small workshop and began making flags.
