Remembering Josefina Aguilar Alcantara (Oaxaca, Mexico, 1945-2026), La Maestra of Mexican folk pottery. She and her sisters were heirs to the tradition of painted clay figures or muñecas, learned from their mother, Isaura, in Ocotlan de Morelos, Oaxaca. While many family members learned this art form, Josefina’s work always stood out for its imagination, it’s humanity and especially, it’s sense of humor.
