Oil on canvas (24” x 36” (61 x 91 cm) 1988
This painting commemorates Port-au-Prince's late, much celebrated Hotel Oloffson, which hosted nearly every 'celebrity' visitor to Haiti - Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Truman Capote, Charles Addams, Ernest Hemingway, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Mick Jagger, Graham Greene, Jonathan Demme, Bill and Hillary Clinton, etc. The ornate 19th century 'gingerbread' building was the model for the hotel in Graham Green's 1966 novel The Comedians. Sadly it was burned to the ground in July 2025 by the gangs that have now taken over most of the city.
